Tennis was a variant, which one could predict but would have to keep doing so; hence, the general change and flow of things. Having decided to transfer to Rikkai (and leaving his childhood friend as well as memories behind) had been apart of his calculations in a much greater scheme. But after junior high, goals and dreams often drew towards a different path.
For Renji, he still yearned to use his data skills to his advantage. However, this did not necessarily mean that he would forever be veered toward the tennis which Rikkai had taught him. Oh, no, he had grown with ideals and to reach much farther than before; which was why he continued to check on his former teammates and hone his abilities. All for the day when I may defeat you.
He still wasn't certain who he truly wanted to overthrow though; whether it was his best friend, The Child of God who had once lead him down a path to victory and had taught him of a tennis that was beyond expectations; The Emperor, for whom he stood beside and valiantly supported (an iron fist to his golden shield); the childhood friend, a fellow data pioneer who encouraged him and allowed him to grow into the man he was today; or perhaps even himself--The Master. For within every person was a menacingly alternate soul which one would have to face someday.
